Yun-Hung (Jordy) Tu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Infectious Diseases and Immunity Program at University of California, Berkeley. In the laboratory of Dr. Filipa Rijo-Ferreira, he studies the circadian biology of malaria parasites. By
developing a novel benchtop automated continuous-culture system, Jordy investigates how rhythmic changes in oxygen tension influence parasite population synchrony and intracellular redox states. He received B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology from Taipei Medical University, Taiwan and M.Sc. in Immunology of Infectious Diseases from London School of Hygiene; Tropical Medicine, UK.
During his undergraduate and master’s training, Jordy was actively involved in international infectious disease research and health education. He participated in soil-transmitted helminth control and community health education programs in Eswatini and Cambodia and contributed to a Zika virus immunoepidemiology study in the Philippines. Through the CEND Fellowship, Jordy hopes to collaborate with researchers and global health practitioners to transform laboratory discoveries into affordable and accessible tools for infectious disease control in resource-limited settings.
